GOLD BULLION South African Krugerrand

Gold coins were regarded as protection against inflation during the initial period by most of the GOLD BULLION buyers. It was first imported to United States of America in 1974 shortly after the country regained its right to buy and own gold coins. The gold rush made the South African Krugerrand an instant hit among the buyers. This made this gold coin the most successful of the gold coins ever minted.

But in 1985, import of South African Krugerrands to United States was banned. But by then already some 25 million Krugerrands had been imported and the ban did nothing to the buying and selling of the Krugerrands. The market for South African Krugerrands is still active and the trade happens daily. The ban was later lifted in the year 1994, by the South African government. But by then the market was taken over by Gold Eagle Bullions and the South African Krugerrands couldn’t be promoted as effectively. Though today the South African Krugerrands remain favorites among the GOLD BULLION buyers they are valued lower than the Gold Eagle Bullions.

1-ounce, 1/2-ounce, 1/4-ounce, and 1/10-ounce are the four different sizes available of a Krugerrands. But all the four sizes carry the same type of design and are 22-karat gold blended with copper alloy. The Gold eagles are designed out the South African Krugerrands. This is because of the popularity of the Krugerrands when Gold Eagle Bullions were designed in United States. Next only to the Gold eagles, South African Krugerrands have the most active market tough secondary. They change between thousands of hands daily. The dates on the bullions are very varied and mixed. Very rarely a tube of South African Krugerrands has coins minted in the same year.
